Caverion to deliver substation for Nebius data center in Finland
Caverion has signed a contract valued at approximately EUR 15 million to deliver a substation for Nebius's AI-focused data center in Lappeenranta, Finland. The project is expected to create jobs for over 80 professionals.
Caverion Oyj has secured a contract worth approximately EUR 15 million to design and construct a substation for Nebius's data center in Lappeenranta, Finland. The facility is intended for AI computing and is projected to become one of Europe's largest dedicated data centers.
The substation project includes an initial phase with a 70-megawatt (MW) capacity and an area of approximately 7,000 square meters. Design work is set to commence immediately, with construction slated to begin in July 2026 and completion anticipated in spring 2027. The overall data center aims for a 310 MW capacity.
The project is expected to generate employment for around 80 professionals, particularly specialists in the energy sector and electricians. Kari Aalto, Caverion's Head of Industrial Projects and Infrastructure, highlighted the accelerated schedule and the need for extensive expertise.
Caverion has previous experience with Nebius, having delivered a data center project in Mäntsälä. The company also reports extensive experience in high-voltage projects, including the construction and modernization of numerous substations and transmission line projects in Finland.
