CB Insights profiles repeat entrepreneurs entering defense sector
A report from CB Insights identifies 14 repeat founders leveraging experience from consumer tech and aerospace to develop autonomous systems and defense hardware.

CB Insights has profiled a cohort of repeat entrepreneurs moving into the defense technology space. These founders, who previously led businesses in gaming, cybersecurity, and travel apps, are now focusing on autonomous aircraft, low-cost interceptors, and hardware-level cybersecurity components.
According to the analysis, the defense tech landscape is increasingly global. Six of the ten highlighted companies are based in India, South Korea, the UK, or Sweden. These firms are targeting specific military inefficiencies, such as the high cost of traditional missile interceptors or the logistical challenges of port-dependent supply chains, by utilizing commercial manufacturing practices.
While high-profile entities like Anduril continue to secure massive capital, the broader cohort of early-stage defense tech firms is seeing smaller, incremental funding rounds. Notable founders in the group include former Palantir employees and veteran drone manufacturers, many of whom are pivoting existing commercial capabilities toward military applications.
The report data reflects funding and accelerator activity recorded through September 2026. The findings suggest that the defense sector is attracting founders from the broader tech ecosystem who prioritize rapid development cycles and lower-cost hardware production over traditional defense procurement models.
