cbdMD Supports Bipartisan Bill to Regulate Hemp Products

Charlotte, N.C. – cbdMD, Inc., a company in the hemp-derived wellness sector, declared its support on July 24, 2026, for the Lawful Hemp Protection Act. Introduced by U.S. Representatives Andy Barr (R-KY) and Angie Craig (D-MN), the legislation seeks to create a long-term federal regulatory structure for hemp products.

The bill addresses an impending deadline: the federal definition of hemp is set to narrow on November 12, 2026. Without congressional action, many full-spectrum CBD and hemp wellness products could be removed from the market. The Lawful Hemp Protection Act would repeal this provision and implement a durable, science-based framework, including FDA oversight, mandatory third-party testing, clear labeling, a 21-and-over age requirement, and domestic sourcing rules. It also aims to target synthetic intoxicants.

cbdMD supports the bill's focus on protecting access to responsibly manufactured full-spectrum CBD, requiring independent testing, establishing clear manufacturing and marketing standards, and restricting synthetic cannabinoids. The company also welcomed the U.S. Administration's call to update the hemp definition through the appropriations process before the November deadline.

"Responsible companies have long supported clear federal standards that protect consumers, promote product quality, and distinguish compliant hemp products from illicit synthetic intoxicants," said Ronan Kennedy, CEO of cbdMD. "We encourage Congress to act before the November implementation deadline."

Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, cbdMD, Inc. believes a consistent federal regulatory framework would enhance consumer confidence, strengthen safety standards, and provide greater certainty for manufacturers and retailers in the hemp industry.
