CD Projekt Red to Expand Witcher 3 Narrative with New 'Ballad of Old World' DLC

CD Projekt Red's classic RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, received a significant update today with the 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition'. Furthermore, a brand-new expansion, 'The Ballad of Old World', is scheduled for release next year.

This new content arrives 12 years after the original game's debut. The development team cited a desire to continue Geralt's story, stating that they believe there are still many untold narratives within the established universe.

"It's a great opportunity for us to tell new stories around characters players are familiar with, while also showing them from a different angle," stated Karolina Kulesza-Roczniewicz, Creative Vision Director at Fool's Theory, a studio supported by CDPR, to external media.

'The Ballad of Old World' is described as a full-fledged expansion promising a richer narrative. Geralt's closest friends will also be featured, with their lives becoming central to significant events within the new storyline.

Players will reportedly delve deeper into the past of the beloved bard, Dandelion, and journey to his hometown, Rivington. There, Geralt will uncover hidden secrets and confront challenging adversaries. The team's initial concept focused on exploring the lives of characters surrounding Geralt, aiming to uncover further narrative potential. "We've always wanted to tell more about the people who are important to Geralt. We're not trying to deliberately conclude anything, but we still feel that there are more stories to tell about Geralt."
