Cellectis Reports Q2 2020 Financial Results and Business Update

Biopharmaceutical company Cellectis announced on August 5, 2020, its financial results for the second quarter and the first six months of 2020. The company also provided an update on its ongoing clinical trials and operational developments.

Regarding clinical programs, Cellectis confirmed that patient enrollment is ongoing for the Phase 1 dose-escalation trials BALLI-01 (in r/r B-ALL patients) and AMELI-01 (in r/r AML patients). The MELANI-01 trial (in r/r MM patients) is on hold, and Cellectis is working with the FDA to safely resume clinical development of the UCART product candidate targeting CS1.

The company's partnered programs utilizing Cellectis' technologies are also progressing. These include UCART19 (PALL study in pediatric r/r ALL patients, CALM study in adult r/r ALL patients), ALLO-501 and ALLO-501A (ALPHA and ALPHA2 studies in r/r NHL patients), and ALLO-7152 (UNIVERSAL study in r/r MM patients).

Allogene Therapeutics and Servier presented data at ASCO 2020 on the ALLO-501 partnered program, showing a 44% complete response (CR) and 75% overall response rate (ORR) in CAR T-naïve r/r NHL patients. Furthermore, Cellectis' US GMP manufacturing site in Raleigh, North Carolina, is on track to start production in 2021.

The company also announced several key appointments: Carrie Brownstein, M.D., has been appointed Chief Medical Officer. Technical Operations will be led by Leopold Bertea, Ph.D., as SVP, Technical Operations Europe, and Steve Doares, Ph.D., as SVP, US Manufacturing and Site Head in Raleigh. As of June 30, 2020, Cellectis had a cash position of $317 million.
