Center for Disaster Philanthropy Grants $4 Million for Long-Term Recovery in Western North Carolina

Two years after Hurricane Helene caused widespread damage in Western North Carolina, local organizations continue their efforts to repair homes, rebuild livelihoods, and address other recovery challenges. The Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) announced it is awarding $4 million in grants from its Truist Foundation Western North Carolina Recovery and Resiliency Fund to 18 organizations.

This final round of funding brings the total investment from the fund to nearly $19 million. The grants will support housing, mental health, environmental restoration, and other resilience-building initiatives, aiming to bolster the region's medium- and long-term recovery and preparedness for future disasters.

CDP stated that communities across the region are driving critical recovery efforts through dedication and ingenuity. Truist Foundation's support enables CDP to partner with locally led initiatives to secure a thriving future for the area. The fund, part of Truist and Truist Foundation's broader $725 million "Truist Cares for Western North Carolina" initiative, has previously supported projects expanding access to safe and affordable housing, strengthening mental health programs, and assisting small businesses and community resilience.

The fund is scheduled to sunset in December 2027, though much of the supported work will continue into 2028. The 18 new grantee partners will utilize the funds for initiatives including home repairs, environmental restoration, behavioral health programming, and community resilience projects.
