CeraVe Research: Europeans Concerned About Skin Protection Beyond UV
New European research reveals 81% recognize the importance of protecting skin beyond UV, yet only 22% use products intended to support the skin barrier.

Vienna, Austria – CeraVe, the skincare brand developed with dermatologists, has released new research examining how 6,000 adults across Europe understand and respond to environmental pressures on their skin. The findings, presented at the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Congress, highlight a significant gap between awareness and action regarding skin barrier health.
The study found that while 90% of respondents are concerned about environmental factors affecting their skin, and 81% acknowledge the need for protection beyond UV exposure, only 22% use products specifically designed to support the skin barrier. This indicates a disconnect between recognizing the problem and implementing preventative measures.
Furthermore, nearly half (47%) reported increased skin sensitivity compared to five years ago, with 50% experiencing dryness linked to environmental factors or changing weather. The research also noted that only 10% take additional skincare steps when pollution levels are high, and 55% stated that skincare routines must be simple to be followed, underscoring the demand for straightforward and effective solutions.
CeraVe emphasizes its commitment to safety, efficacy, and simplicity in skincare development. "Our responsibility is to make skin health understandable and accessible, while never compromising on safety and efficacy," said Gene Colon, Global Senior Vice President of Medical Relations and Communications at CeraVe. The brand highlighted its dermatologist-developed formulations, featuring three skin-identical ceramides to help restore and maintain the skin barrier, backed by rigorous safety and efficacy evaluations.
