Cerfontaine takes delivery of Netherlands' first Scania R770 8x4 XT heavy haulage tractor

Cerfontaine BV from Berg en Terblijt (near Maastricht) has become the first company in the Netherlands to put a Scania R770 8x4 into operation as a heavy haulage tractor, in the robust XT configuration. The vehicle, featuring an 8x4 chassis with a tandem axle with hub reduction and a steered trailing axle, has received technical approval in the Netherlands for a Gross Combination Weight (GCW) of up to 180 tons.

According to director Daniël Cerfontaine, the vehicle will primarily be used to transport the company's own earthmoving equipment using a four-axle low-loader. While the vehicle is approved for 180 tons, Cerfontaine indicated their typical maximum operating weight is around 100 tons.

Cerfontaine BV is a family-run business managed by three brothers, offering services in civil engineering, agriculture, earthmoving, and heavy transport across the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Denmark. The choice of the Scania R770 XT was reportedly driven by its factory-configured setup, robustness, and driver comfort, despite the company not having a strong brand preference.

The company noted that while fuel consumption is not the primary concern in heavy haulage, the new Scania with its 770 hp V8 engine appears to be performing well below their expected 50 liters/100 km threshold. The vehicle is projected to cover approximately 80,000 km annually and is intended for a 10-year service life, with a service contract established with a Scania dealer.
