CGN Completes Fuel Loading for Second Reactor at Sanao Nuclear Plant
CGN has commenced fuel loading for the second reactor at the Sanao nuclear power station in Zhejiang, moving the unit into the operational testing phase.

CGN has confirmed the completion of initial nuclear fuel loading for Unit 2 at the Sanao nuclear power plant. This milestone shifts the project into the commissioning and operational testing phase, a key step toward achieving full grid connection.
The Sanao project is notable for being the first nuclear power initiative in China to involve private capital investment. The site is designed to house six Hualong One reactors, with four currently in various stages of construction. The plant's first unit began commercial operations in April 2024 and has since maintained stable output, providing an estimated 9 billion kilowatt-hours annually.
Upon the completion of all six units, the plant is projected to generate over 54 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. This capacity is equivalent to approximately 80% of Wenzhou's annual electricity demand, contributing to a significant reduction in regional carbon emissions.
