Chalmers and Wellspect enhance materials research with new extruder
Chalmers University of Technology and Wellspect Healthcare have strengthened their collaboration by placing a single screw extruder at the university's Department of Industrial and Materials Science.

Chalmers University of Technology and medical technology company Wellspect Healthcare have deepened their collaboration with the placement of a single screw extruder at Chalmers' Department of Industrial and Materials Science. This equipment enhances the university's research infrastructure for materials development and supports research in polymer processing.
The new extruder facilitates accelerated development of antibacterial materials for biomedical applications. Wellspect, a company focused on continence care, is using the equipment to test different types of plastic catheter tubes and explore new material compositions.
Professor Roland Kádár at Chalmers highlights that the collaboration also serves as a valuable educational resource. It prepares future engineers for industry needs and allows PhD and postdoctoral students to engage with direct industrial problems.
The partnership between academia and industry promotes knowledge sharing and access to technology. Both parties benefit from this collaboration, aiming to develop innovative solutions and prepare for future challenges.
