Chalmers opens new visitor center at Onsala Space Observatory
Onsala Space Observatory at Chalmers has opened a new visitor center. The facility provides the public and researchers with insights into space research and Earth sciences.

Onsala Space Observatory, operated by Chalmers University of Technology, has inaugurated a new visitor center aimed at enhancing public and scientific understanding of space and Earth. The center showcases advanced technology used in astronomical and terrestrial research.
During the opening ceremony, Chalmers President Stefan Bengtsson highlighted the role of curiosity in scientific advancement. "I hope and believe that the visitor center will be a place for inspired meetings - where children and young people can meet researchers at the cutting edge," Bengtsson stated.
The construction project emphasized reuse and circularity, incorporating materials such as zinc panels from the Kiasma Art Museum in Helsinki and concrete from construction projects in Gothenburg. The facility was designed by White Arkitekter and built by NCC.
The exhibition content was developed in collaboration with local schools. Further development of exhibits is ongoing. Starting in early 2023, the observatory will accept bookings for guided tours for various visitor groups. A public event is also scheduled for October 16, in partnership with Naturum Fjärås Bräcka.
