Chalmers receives SEK 100 million for advanced digitalization research

Chalmers University of Technology has been granted SEK 100 million for two research projects focused on advanced digitalization. The initiatives aim to automate compliance processes and establish data-driven product development, enhancing Swedish industry's competitiveness.

Chalmers University of Technology is set to receive SEK 100 million (approximately EUR 9.5 million) in funding for two research projects focused on advanced digitalization. The grants will support work in automated compliance and data-driven product realization.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering receives SEK 48 million for the "Continuous Compliance" project. This initiative will develop a new approach to automate regulatory compliance throughout the entire lifecycle of software and AI-intensive systems. By integrating AI with modern digital infrastructure, the project aims for continuous monitoring and automated evidence generation for compliance.

"The ability to continuously assess whether a system complies with regulations, standards, and company policies โ€“ both during development and operation โ€“ will be transformative," stated Professor Eric Knauss. "Compliance should not be seen as an obstacle, but as an enabler that brings best practices and knowledge directly into software and AI development."

Separately, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Electrical Engineering, and Fraunhofer FCC are awarded SEK 53 million for the "DRIVE PR โ€“ Data-Driven Product Realisation" project. This project aims to shift towards fully data-driven product realization by integrating advanced digital infrastructure, including 5G/6G connectivity, AI-driven computing, and physics-based simulation. A key objective is to reduce costs associated with uncertainty, variation, and risk by 50 percent.

Funded through Vinnova's "Advanced Digitalisation" program, these projects are expected to significantly enhance efficiency and competitiveness within Swedish industry by leveraging cutting-edge digital technologies in product development and manufacturing.
