Chalmers Researchers Develop New Disease Diagnostics Technology
Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology have founded VIDEM to develop new technology enabling rapid and accurate disease diagnostics.

GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN – Researchers from Chalmers University of Technology have established VIDEM, a company focused on developing a new technology for rapid and accurate disease diagnostics. The innovation aims to improve future disease detection and pandemic preparedness.
The company utilizes Rolling Circle Amplification (RCA) technology, which allows for the testing of multiple diseases from a single sample at a low cost. This technology emerged from a six-year project initiated in 2014 with funding from the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, involving collaborators from Chalmers, Rise, KI, SciLifeLab, and Uppsala University.
"Our goal is to create global utility within ten years," stated Maria Barklund, CEO of VIDEM. "The product we are developing should be simple enough to be used anywhere, whether in a home setting or in primary healthcare."
VIDEM's innovation integrates amplification and detection methods onto a "lab-on-a-chip" microfluidic system, automating sample preparation, amplification, and detection. The company continues its collaboration with Chalmers, developing sensors within the university's MC2 cleanroom facilities.
