Chalmers to Expand AI Research Applications in Society
Chalmers University of Technology is enhancing the practical application of its AI research by recruiting new experts. The initiative aims to tailor AI solutions for businesses and public authorities.

Gothenburg, Sweden – Chalmers University of Technology is launching a significant initiative to broaden the practical application of its artificial intelligence research within society. The Chalmers-owned research institute, Chalmers Next Labs, established in 2023, is currently recruiting approximately ten senior researchers and engineers.
These new hires will focus on areas such as data management, modelling, and validation, aiming to create tailored AI solutions for practical use. The goal is to support businesses and public authorities in exploring AI opportunities within their operations, accelerating its implementation across various sectors including production lines, transport, and healthcare decision support.
"We want to build a team that combines research depth with practical experience. AI is a powerful tool, but we must translate new knowledge into solutions that make a real difference in practice," stated Monica Ringvik, CEO of Chalmers Next Labs. She emphasized the importance of close collaboration with those directly facing daily challenges.
Chalmers Next Labs is positioned to support organizations in developing practical AI applications, bridging the gap between advanced research and real-world implementation. The university has a long-standing involvement in Swedish AI research, participating in major national programs and research centers like the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP).
This expansion is part of Chalmers' strategy to become a world-class technical university by translating its research knowledge and infrastructure into concrete societal solutions. The initiative aims to bolster the university's capacity to realize its AI advancements in practical applications and further its impact.
