Chalmers University of Technology invests SEK 100 million in research
Chalmers University of Technology is launching a 10-year, SEK 100 million investment initiative to strengthen research. The goal is to increase internal basic funding and enhance researcher freedom.

Chalmers University of Technology has initiated a significant 10-year investment program aimed at enhancing research excellence. The Chalmers University of Technology Foundation will contribute an initial SEK 100 million, with plans to potentially increase the annual funding to SEK 200–250 million after a five-year evaluation.
The initiative intends to provide twenty existing Chalmers researchers with annual grants of SEK 5 million for five years. This funding is designed to foster greater freedom and a long-term perspective in research, supporting academic excellence and potentially leading to significant societal advancements.
"Strong core funding is extremely important to create freedom and a long-term perspective in research," stated Martin Nilsson Jacobi, President and CEO of Chalmers University of Technology. He highlighted that the program offers promising researchers the resources to tackle new challenges and pursue ambitious projects.
Sara Wallin, CEO of the Chalmers Foundation, emphasized that the investment underscores Chalmers' commitment to contributing to societal development through technical and natural sciences research. This internal funding aims to bolster the university's capacity to address global challenges and support its long-term strategic goals.
