Chalmers University of Technology marks 50 years of industrial management
Chalmers University of Technology has celebrated five decades of its industrial management program, reflecting on its role in shaping Sweden’s industrial development.

Chalmers University of Technology is commemorating 50 years of industrial management as an academic discipline. Established in 1969 under Professor Holger Bohlin, the program was designed to integrate technical knowledge with economic expertise to enhance industrial decision-making.
According to Professor Mats Lundqvist, Vice Head of the Department of Technology Management and Economics, the curriculum has evolved to address current requirements for entrepreneurship and sustainable innovation. The university aims to increase its research and educational focus on these management topics as part of its long-term strategy.
To mark the anniversary, the university held a seminar on November 19 featuring industry leaders from companies including Volvo Buses, AstraZeneca, and the Ingka Group (IKEA). Discussions focused on the challenges of managing sustainable futures and the ongoing evolution of management education in an increasingly complex global market.
