Chalmers University of Technology streamlines master’s programme portfolio
Chalmers University of Technology is consolidating its master's offerings from 40 to approximately 35 programs to better align with industry needs.

Chalmers University of Technology is restructuring its master's degree portfolio to improve responsiveness to technological shifts and industry competence requirements. Following an internal review process initiated in 2024, the university will reduce its total number of master’s programmes from approximately 40 to 35, effective from the 2027 academic year.
The redesign introduces elective specializations that will appear on student degree certificates, intended to provide clearer pathways for prospective employers to identify candidate expertise. Additionally, the university is implementing a mandatory-free flexibility window in the second year of study, allowing students to pursue minors or international exchanges.
Jörgen Blennow, Vice President for Education, stated that the revision is intended to ensure that the university's offerings remain competitive and grounded in research. The new programmes are scheduled for first admission in autumn 2027, with select programmes following in 2028.
