Chalmers University Reports Increased Application Pressure for Master's Programmes

Chalmers University of Technology has experienced a substantial increase in applications for its master's programmes for the upcoming academic year. The application deadline for external applicants passed on January 15, with the university receiving a total of 11,744 national and international applications. This represents a nearly 16 percent rise compared to the previous year.

Of these applicants, 4,989 selected Chalmers as their first choice, an increase of 9 percent from last year. The total number of applications submitted, counting all preferences, reached 14,848, up 14 percent. This trend aligns with a national increase in university applications, which rose by 17 percent overall.

The proportion of female applicants continues to grow, now at 33.41 percent, up from 31.35 percent in 2024. Despite the overall rise in interest, several programmes saw fewer first-choice applicants than in the prior year, with 24 programmes experiencing this trend. Conversely, 15 programmes reported an increase in first-choice applicants.

Top programmes based on first-choice applications include Data Science and AI, Design and Construction Project Management, and Computer Systems and Cybersecurity. Nigeria, China, and India were among the countries with the highest number of applicants. Chalmers will conduct a single selection round for 2025, where admitted students must actively decline their place if they do not wish to accept it.
