Chalmers University seeks industrial PhD and postdoc candidates in quantum technology

Gothenburg, Sweden โ€“ Chalmers University of Technology is seeking applications for industrial PhD and postdoc projects focused on quantum technology. This initiative, open for 2026, targets Swedish small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in the quantum technology sector or related fields.

The program aims to recruit individuals who have not yet commenced doctoral studies for industrial PhD positions. These candidates are expected to dedicate at least 80% of their time to research over a four-year period, splitting their work between the university and their employing company. For industrial postdoc roles, applicants must hold a doctoral degree and commit at least 80% of their time for two years, with 50โ€“75% allocated to the university and the remainder to the company.

Eligible Swedish SMEs must be developing products or services relevant to quantum technology. While not required to be affiliated with WACQT (Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology), companies must be based in Sweden. Each SME can submit only one application. Submissions must be in English and sent by email no later than 5:00 PM CET on November 8, 2026.

Funding for these projects will be provided by WACQT, which will co-finance salary costs for the industrial PhDs and postdocs, alongside contributing to the research groups' operational expenses. The participating companies are responsible for covering the remaining project costs. Decisions on awarded projects are expected by December 15, 2026, with project commencement by June 30, 2027.
