Changsha Airport Deploys Smart Power Bank Scanners
Changsha Huanghua International Airport has implemented intelligent terminals to identify non-compliant power banks in 2 seconds, utilizing AI and recall databases.

Changsha Huanghua International Airport has introduced a new security screening system designed to rapidly identify non-compliant power banks, enhancing flight safety. Developed in collaboration with Zhongke Hongtuo, the system aims to quickly detect devices that pose a risk.
The "Banrui Smart Power Bank Identification Terminal" has been installed at security checkpoints in Terminal 2. The device reportedly uses a dual-engine approach combining AI visual recognition with recall databases to identify power banks that do not meet aviation regulations within approximately two seconds.
Airport officials cited increasing pressure on manual inspections due to the small size, inconsistent placement, and potential wear or counterfeiting of 3C certification marks on power banks. Continuous updates to recall lists further complicate manual verification.
Under the new system, passengers place their power banks in a designated area. The terminal scans information such as the 3C mark, capacity, and rated energy, comparing it against aviation rules and a recall database. Results are displayed via audio-visual cues and a touchscreen to assist security personnel in identifying prohibited or recalled items.
During a 42-day trial period, the system scanned 1,958 power banks and intercepted 421 non-compliant devices, reportedly with zero missed detections. The system also automatically logs images, check times, and results for traceability.
