Chase Bank closes wave of branches this summer

JPMorgan Chase has closed at least 13 bank branches in eight states since the beginning of June, according to regulatory filings. The bank, which operates the largest branch network in the United States, continues to re-evaluate its physical locations even as it opens new branches.

The closures have affected branches in Florida, Washington, Ohio, Illinois, California, Louisiana, Arizona, and New York. For instance, two branches in Dayton, Ohio, have been shuttered, and one branch in Chicago, Illinois, closed with another slated for relocation.

Chase has previously announced plans to open more than 500 new branches by 2027 and continues to invest in its physical network. However, recent closures and relocations raise questions about the bank's strategy to downsize certain locations, even as the overall branch network sees growth.

A company spokesperson stated, "In some cases, we may relocate a branch if another is nearby or foot traffic is low—helping ensure a strong network that serves communities for the long term."
