Koopman discussed hydrofluoric acid (HF) dispersion and mitigation, a substance crucial for manufacturing various materials like refrigerants and Teflon. However, HF is also recognized as one of the most dangerous and corrosive chemicals known.
Koopman's earlier research from the 1980s already highlighted the severe risks of deadly accidents at facilities handling such hazardous materials.
