Chery and JLR's Freelander Brand Plans UK Launch

Freelander, a standalone car brand established through a partnership between Chery and Jaguar Land Rover, has announced its intention to enter the UK market. This move is part of a phased international expansion strategy for the brand.

According to reports from Autocar in October 2023, the brand's expansion will proceed in stages. The initial phase will focus on the Middle East and North Africa. The second phase will include Australia and New Zealand. Entry into the UK and other European markets is designated for the third phase of this rollout.

Details regarding the specific launch year in the UK and the designated import company have not yet been disclosed by Freelander. The brand's inaugural model is the Freelander 8, a large plug-in hybrid SUV. Chief Executive Wen Fei has indicated that European market vehicles will be new derivatives specifically tailored to local requirements, rather than modified versions of existing Chinese market models.
