Chery enters automotive semiconductor market with Ziwei chip lineup

Chinese automaker Chery unveiled its Ziwei semiconductor portfolio on October 20, marking a strategic expansion into the automotive chip supply chain. The new lineup includes central computing chips, silicon carbide (SiC) modules, and vehicle-control hardware.

The C100 central computing chip is designed to handle on-device artificial intelligence, capable of supporting physical-world models with 100 billion parameters. According to technical specifications provided by the company, a dual-unit configuration offers a performance of 2,400 TOPS and a memory bandwidth of 600GB per second.

Beyond computing, the company introduced the S1500 silicon carbide chip, rated for 1,500V systems. Chery confirmed that its eight-inch silicon carbide wafers have entered mass production, a move intended to reduce manufacturing costs by approximately 30%. The manufacturer also revealed five distinct chip-packaging families intended for use across its future vehicle platforms.

This development follows a broader trend among major automotive manufacturers attempting to bring critical semiconductor development in-house to reduce reliance on external suppliers and improve supply chain stability.
