Chery Recalls Omoda 5 in Malaysia, Expands Checks to Other Markets
Chery Automobile is initiating a recall of the Omoda 5 model in Malaysia due to a potential issue with rear axle welds and is extending precautionary checks to other markets.

Chery Automobile has announced a recall for its Omoda 5 model in Malaysia following an incident involving a 2023 model. The company is also conducting risk assessments and checks on vehicles from the same production batch in China and other related markets as a precautionary measure.
The issue, which did not result in any injuries, was identified as a potential weakness in the local welding strength of the rear axle's longitudinal arm. In extreme situations, this could lead to a risk of weld tearing, according to the company's investigation.
Chery's Malaysian subsidiary is cooperating with the Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ) to inspect affected vehicles and replace relevant parts free of charge. The company noted that vehicles with this specific structural configuration have already ceased production.
Chery stated that the expanded checks are proactive and that it is maintaining communication with regulatory bodies. The company commits to transparently announcing the findings of these investigations.
