Chianti Classico Celebrates Culture, Linking Wine to Art and History

The Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico is marking 2026 with its campaign, 'Chianti Classico is Culture,' emphasizing the deep connections between wine, art, history, landscape, and traditions that define the Tuscan region.

The campaign explores themes such as 'Chianti Classico is Art' and 'Chianti Classico is Heritage,' using imagery of Italian art and architecture to link the wines, symbolized by the Black Rooster, with the area's broader cultural legacy. The core message suggests that appreciating Chianti Classico involves understanding its agricultural practices, craftsmanship, and historical context.

Producers in the denomination are blending generational winemaking knowledge with a focus on quality, environmental stewardship, and understanding the territory's distinct character. Sustainable farming is a key aspect, with 55% of vineyard area managed organically and 64% of producers avoiding chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The region's landscape, largely covered by woodland, makes ecosystem protection integral to preserving the wine's identity.

Expectations for the 2026 harvest are positive, with favorable conditions reported. Consorzio President Giovanni Manetti noted good quality and average yields, attributing aromatic complexity in Sangiovese to cool nights. The United States remains the primary market, and ongoing international outreach aims to reinforce Chianti Classico's global standing.
