Chicago's Adams Street Bridge and Viaduct reopened to traffic on February 24, 2017, following a closure of over a year for extensive reconstruction. The complex urban project involved replacing the existing 88-year-old viaduct that spans 13 railroad tracks and 5 passenger platforms at Chicago Union Station. Concurrently, necessary repairs were undertaken on the adjacent, iconic bascule bridge over the Chicago River.
The reconstruction efforts aimed to enhance traffic flow and modernize the infrastructure in the vicinity of the station. The renovated viaduct ensures the area's continued functionality and safety for the future. EXP provided construction engineering services for this significant undertaking.
The project represented a key component of the city's ongoing maintenance and upgrade of critical infrastructure. Residents can now benefit from improved transportation routes via the reopened bridge and viaduct, facilitating movement within this central part of the city.
