Chiefs' New Stadium Designed for Maximum Crowd Noise
The Kansas City Chiefs' planned $3 billion stadium is intentionally designed to be as loud as possible. The architectural firm aims to break stadium crowd noise records.

Kansas City Chiefs is preparing to open its new $3 billion stadium in 2031, which lead architect Manica Architecture has specifically designed to maximize crowd noise. The goal is to create an environment where fan noise surpasses previous records.
The stadium's design has focused on containing and concentrating sound within the seating areas. "The carefully designed layout of the seating environment, the roof, and the concourse areas is intended to contain the sound inside the seating environment, much more than the existing Arrowhead Stadium does today," stated David Manica, owner of Manica Architecture.
To maximize volume, the stadium's shape has been optimized. The design minimizes interruptions in seating sections, placing spectators as close to the field and each other as possible. Exit passageways within the bowl have been removed, and seating is designed for maximum density with continuous tiers and fewer internal aisles.
The stadium's parabolic roof shape, in turn, directs sound waves back down toward the fans, increasing perceived loudness. Acoustic engineers have digitally tested and analyzed the new stadium's designs, and their analysis suggests that crowd noise will be perceived as even louder in the new building compared to the current Arrowhead Stadium.
Manica Architecture has previously contributed to designing venues like Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The new Chiefs stadium is expected to accommodate approximately 70,000 spectators. While the seating capacity is slightly less than the current Arrowhead Stadium's capacity of over 76,000, acoustic performance is a primary design focus.
