Children Use BYD Megawatt Charging Cables as Swings
A recent incident in Nanning, China, saw children using BYD's megawatt fast-charging station cables as swings, sparking safety concerns. BYD stated they would investigate and patrol the site.
BYD Auto is addressing an incident where several children were observed using the cables of the company's megawatt fast-charging station as swings. The event, which occurred at a charging station in Nanning, Guangxi, gained significant attention after being shared on social media.
Footage of the incident shows children swinging from the charging cables, raising concerns about potential damage to the equipment and electrical hazards. BYD's megawatt fast-charging infrastructure can operate at peak voltages of approximately 1000 volts and currents up to 1500 amperes, with a maximum power output of 1 megawatt (1000 kW).
BYD's customer service confirmed the reports and stated that they would contact the station's employees for inspection and to implement appropriate measures. The company emphasized that such use is strictly prohibited and poses significant risks.
This incident highlights the need for enhanced safety protocols and public awareness regarding high-power charging infrastructure, especially in publicly accessible areas. BYD introduced its megawatt charging technology as a way to drastically reduce charging times for electric vehicles.
