China 2-Ethylhexanol prices reach one-year high in October

Chinese 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) spot prices surged in mid-October 2026, reaching a 12-month peak. Producers in the Shandong region increased offers by 100 to 200 yuan per tonne, sustaining a bullish trend that had been building throughout the month.

The price increases are primarily tied to sustained high costs for propylene, which has kept the cost of oxo-chemical feedstock elevated. Downstream demand remains a significant factor, as manufacturers of plasticizers like DOP and DOTP have been actively securing supplies to fulfill orders for the construction and wire and cable industries ahead of their peak demand season.

Market indicators now suggest potential volatility. While demand remains firm, technical signals indicate that the upward momentum is slowing. Analysts suggest that any decline in propylene costs or a cooling of plasticizer tenders could lead to a market correction, prompting procurement teams to adopt more flexible, formula-indexed sourcing strategies for the upcoming year.
