China accelerates development of next-generation communications infrastructure
State media coverage confirms a national push to expand 5G, 6G, and satellite network integration to support industrial automation.
China is accelerating the construction of its next-generation communication network, incorporating 5G, 5G-A, 6G, ultra-high-speed fiber optics, and satellite internet. This initiative seeks to integrate communication, sensing, and computing capabilities into a unified digital infrastructure.
The deployment currently reaches remote areas, including deep forest zones, mountainous regions, and offshore oil platforms. This connectivity aims to optimize industrial efficiency, such as deploying autonomous mining trucks and drone surveillance systems. Data indicates that over 26,000 industrial 5G networks are already operational, supporting productivity across multiple manufacturing sectors.
Development of 6G technology is shifting from laboratory testing to potential field applications. A primary focus is the ability for future 6G base stations to provide sensory capabilities similar to radar, which is intended to support real-time environmental awareness and enhance response times for technologies like autonomous driving.
