China has announced significant progress in its telecommunications infrastructure, achieving nationwide gigabit fiber optic network coverage in all counties and broadband access in every village. The development of next-generation communication networks is accelerating, with typical applications of gigabit fiber networks already covering over 90 percent of major economic sectors. Cities like Chongqing have reached full urban and rural coverage of gigabit fiber networks.

Alongside this widespread gigabit deployment, China is advancing the transition of 10 Gbps fiber optic networks from pilot programs to large-scale application. The technology's high bandwidth and low latency are seen as crucial for supporting new communication networks. Following pilot projects initiated in 2025, China has established 136 sites, including residential communities, industrial parks, and factories, equipped with 10 Gbps connections.

Government initiatives have previously outlined plans to promote the deployment of 10 Gbps fiber networks and the commercialization of 5G-A mobile networks as part of new infrastructure development. The broader objective includes upgrading existing gigabit networks to meet future 10 Gbps standards. This expansion aims to enhance the country's digital infrastructure and ensure faster, more reliable connectivity across China.
