China adds 180 GW of renewable energy capacity in first nine months
Data from China's National Energy Administration shows renewables accounted for over 70 percent of all new power capacity added through September.

China's renewable energy sector expanded by 180 gigawatts (GW) during the first three quarters of the year, according to the National Energy Administration. Renewables represented 71.7 percent of all newly installed capacity, with solar power overtaking other categories as the country's primary source of energy capacity.
By the end of September, the nation's total installed renewable capacity reached 2.52 terawatts, an increase of 14.6 percent year-on-year. Renewable energy now accounts for approximately 61 percent of China's total power infrastructure, reflecting a significant shift in the country's energy mix.
Renewable power generation reached 3.13 trillion kilowatt-hours, up 8 percent from last year, contributing to nearly 42 percent of the country’s total electricity generation. Officials noted that renewable energy currently drives nearly 90 percent of the annual increase in domestic power output.
