China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has allocated new P-band radio frequency resources to meteorological departments. The move aims to enhance the country's capacity to respond to extreme weather events like heavy rainfall and typhoons.
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has allocated P-band radio frequency resources to meteorological departments for technical experiments with BeiDou satellite navigation-based meteorological sounding systems. The initiative is designed to improve the nation's ability to predict and respond to extreme weather phenomena.
The newly allocated frequencies will support operations such as short-term precipitation forecasting, typhoon monitoring, and refined intelligent grid forecasting. They will also aid in the analysis of weather systems, providing more accurate data for meteorological services.
MIIT is guiding local meteorological bureaus in the standardized construction and deployment of meteorological observation stations and ground receiving stations utilizing the BeiDou system. This is intended to strengthen disaster prevention and mitigation capabilities and enhance resilience against climate change and extreme weather.
The ministry stated it will continue to provide reliable frequency resource guarantees to support the high-quality development of China's meteorological services, addressing the practical needs of weather forecasting and disaster risk reduction.
