China and Egypt Collaborate on Desert Renewable Energy Research

A collaborative research laboratory focused on renewable energy has been established on Karaman Island in Sohag, southern Egypt. This joint venture between China and Egypt aims to advance solar power technology specifically for desert conditions.

The facility, part of the China-Egypt Belt and Road Initiative, is situated at the research base of Egypt's Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT). Photovoltaic (PV) panels have been installed on the roofs of the research base.

The research will investigate methods to harness solar energy effectively within the challenging climate of the region. The goal is to enhance the efficiency and durability of solar power systems in arid environments.

This scientific partnership seeks to bolster bilateral cooperation in the energy sector and contribute to sustainable development goals by promoting clean energy adoption.
