China and Greece Establish Joint Lab for Cultural Heritage Conservation Technology

China and Greece have formalized their collaboration in cultural heritage conservation technology with the establishment of a joint laboratory. According to Science and Technology Daily, the initiative aims to pool expertise and technological advancements from both nations for the preservation of historical sites.

The foundation for this partnership was laid during Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to Greece in 2019. During the visit, Xi and then-Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos toured the Acropolis Museum in Athens, sparking discussions that led to the current cooperative framework.

The newly formed "China-Greece Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Cultural Heritage Conservation Technology" will bring together researchers and specialists from both countries. Its objectives include developing and disseminating advanced techniques such as digital documentation, restoration methods, and material analysis to safeguard significant cultural assets.

This joint laboratory is part of the broader "Belt and Road" initiative, underscoring the commitment between China and Greece to foster cultural exchange and preserve shared historical treasures for future generations.
