China Broadcasting Network focuses on TV service upgrades
China Broadcasting Network (CBN) held a mid-year work conference to outline key tasks for the second half of the year, with a significant focus on upgrading its television services.

China Broadcasting Network (CBN) convened its mid-year work conference on July 31, reviewing the first half's performance and setting strategic priorities for the remainder of 2024. The company announced plans to accelerate the upgrade of its television services as a key initiative.
The conference emphasized that the industry should focus on "cultural services, communication services, and digital intelligence services." This involves coordinating the "Nationwide Network" deployment and implementing key tasks. The primary focus is to enhance television services by migrating existing users to integrated solutions and solidifying the company's core market.
CBN aims to build a differentiated competitive advantage by developing a core product system that integrates "ultra-HD integrated audio-visual services + basic communication services + various rights and value-added services." The company will also invest in fiber optic network upgrades to improve capacity and service quality, supporting multi-screen services and integrated product offerings.
Furthermore, CBN plans to deepen the co-construction and sharing of 5G networks, enhance differentiated cooperation, and ensure secure and stable operation of 5G services. The company will also innovate its content layout system by accelerating the national rollout of unified content products and piloting FAST channels, while expanding services for government and enterprise clients.
These initiatives align with a broader national push for integrated TV services, where set-top box functionalities are built directly into televisions. This aims to provide a simplified user experience with features like instant live TV, single remote control operation, voice interaction, and ultra-HD display. The goal is to deploy tens of millions of such integrated televisions across China in 2024.
