The first batch of TF coil cases for China's compact fusion energy experimental device, known as BEST, has been delivered, according to Chinese tech outlet IT Home. The delivery ceremony for these core components of the device's superconducting magnet system took place at the Deyang base of China National Machinery Industry Corporation (SINOMACH).

These TF coil cases are designed to operate under extreme conditions, including ultra-low temperatures and intense magnetic fields, requiring highly specialized materials. Their successful manufacturing marks a significant step in the construction of the BEST device.

The BEST device aims to bridge the gap between experimental fusion reactors and demonstration power plants. Its development is part of China's national strategy for controlled nuclear fusion, with the goal of advancing related industries and technologies.

According to research plans, the BEST device, located in Hefei, Anhui province, is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. Following completion, it will conduct plasma experiments with the objective of achieving a fusion power output between 20 and 200 megawatts, potentially demonstrating fusion power generation around 2030.
