China Export Flows Support PVC Amid Soft Domestic Demand

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) prices held firm heading into June 2026, with monthly averages reaching approximately $824 per ton. This strength emerged despite persistently soft domestic demand, particularly within the construction sector, indicating cost pressures are the primary market driver.

The rise in PVC prices is attributed to escalating costs across the supply chain. Disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz have increased freight and insurance expenses, while higher prices for key feedstocks such as ethylene and calcium carbide, alongside elevated power costs, have raised overall production expenses.

China has increasingly leveraged its export markets for PVC. As domestic construction and real estate demand remained sluggish, carbide-based producers shifted their focus towards overseas sales, bolstering global export flows and supporting price levels.

For procurement teams, the implication is that higher landed costs for PVC are becoming the norm, driven by logistics and energy expenses rather than resin fundamentals. Prices are expected to remain firm as long as energy and freight costs stay elevated, although weak construction demand may cap the extent of further price increases.
