China had more than 70 operational physical training grounds for 'embodied AI' development by the end of June, according to a report from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology. These facilities are designed to collect real-world data, train AI models, and test robotic systems.
The report indicates that an additional 46 facilities are currently under construction or in the planning stages. These sites are spread across more than half of China's provincial-level regions, signifying a broad national effort in this technological domain.
Industrial manufacturing emerged as the most common application, featuring in 86% of the training grounds. Key clusters for these facilities have formed in the Yangtze River Delta, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and the Pearl River Delta.
