China Medical System launches clinical use of Silevimig rabies treatment in China
China Medical System has commenced the clinical application of Silevimig Injection, the first bispecific antibody for passive rabies immunization, across several Chinese hospitals.
China Medical System (CMS) has begun the clinical rollout of Silevimig Injection, a bispecific antibody designed for passive immunization against rabies. Initial prescriptions have been filled at multiple institutions across China, including Beijing Luhe Hospital and Wenzhou People’s Hospital, roughly two months after the drug received regulatory approval in June 2026.
Silevimig targets dual epitopes of the rabies virus G protein, a method intended to neutralize various viral strains. The product is administered at a dosage of 0.05 mg/kg, which is significantly lower than that of human rabies immune globulins. Because the treatment is produced using recombinant technology, it avoids the safety risks associated with plasma-derived products and offers consistent batch quality.
Rabies remains a near-fatal zoonotic disease once symptoms develop. Because active vaccination requires one to two weeks to reach protective levels, passive immunization serves as a critical bridge. CMS is currently integrating Silevimig into its broader portfolio of nine commercialized innovative drugs as it continues to expand its presence in the Chinese therapeutic market.
