China Mobile Hong Kong Deploys First U6GHz Network in City

China Mobile Hong Kong has completed the city's first U6GHz network, enabling download speeds exceeding 3 Gbps. The network utilizes the new Upper 6GHz frequency band.

18 October 2026

China Mobile Hong Kong announced the completion of the city's first Upper 6GHz (U6GHz) network. The company conducted network testing and verification at its flagship store in Mong Kok.

The U6GHz band provides continuous, wide bandwidth and is identified as a crucial spectrum resource for future 5G-A and 6G network evolution. Hong Kong auctioned the 6/7 GHz spectrum on November 29, 2024, with China Mobile Hong Kong acquiring 100MHz of continuous spectrum.

This new U6GHz spectrum can be combined with existing bands through spectrum aggregation technology, achieving download speeds above 3 Gbps. The increased spectrum availability is expected to enhance data transmission capabilities and support more concurrent users in busy areas.

The deployment advances the exploration of U6GHz band applications in mobile networks and builds experience for future 6G commercialization. On the same day, China Telecom (Macao) announced the completion of its U6G demonstration base station.
