China National Silk Museum Opens Exhibition in Kazakhstan
The China National Silk Museum's Overseas Gallery opened at the National Museum of Kazakhstan in Astana on July 2. The "Splendid Silk" exhibition showcases Chinese silk art.

The China National Silk Museum has opened an exhibition at the National Museum of Kazakhstan in Astana on July 2. Titled "Splendid Silk: Contemporary Chinese Silk Art International Touring Exhibition," the show is the inaugural presentation in the museum's newly established Overseas Gallery, signifying a milestone in bilateral cultural cooperation.
The exhibition, jointly curated by the China National Silk Museum in partnership with the Huzhou Museum and Turpan Museum, features 99 pieces. These works trace the evolution of Chinese silk artistry from ancient times to modern digital innovation. Highlights include 83 masterworks by contemporary Chinese craft artists and designers, seven replicas of prehistoric silk fabrics, and nine replicas of classic Silk Road textiles.
The exhibition is divided into three thematic sections: the historical roots of silk, the living heritage of intangible crafts in modern fashion, and the fusion of silk art with digital technology. The event, coinciding with the Chinese Year of the Horse, draws on equestrian traditions along the Silk Road.
Having garnered significant media attention in Kazakhstan and China, the exhibition is part of a cooperation agreement signed in 2025 between the two museums. Future joint presentations are planned to further strengthen the cultural ties between the nations through silk.
