Shipments in China's tablet market fell by 4.4% year-over-year in the second quarter of 2026, totaling 7.96 million units, according to a report from International Data Corporation (IDC). While the overall decline narrowed slightly compared to the previous quarter, market pressures intensified.

The commercial tablet market saw a significant 67.1% increase in shipments, largely driven by advance purchases in anticipation of price hikes. This boosted quarterly figures as businesses and distributors stocked up. Conversely, the consumer segment experienced a 9.8% year-over-year decline, impacted by rising costs and a pull-forward of demand from previous periods.

Huawei maintained its leading position in shipments, showing relative stability. Apple ranked second, having a price advantage before a late-June price increase due to cost pressures. Lenovo climbed to third place, driven by new consumer product lines and growth in the commercial sector.

IDC expects the impact of rising costs on the tablet market to become more apparent in the latter half of 2026 and continue into next year. Price increases may extend consumer device replacement cycles, and manufacturers might adjust product strategies to cope with cost challenges.
