China UnionPay, the Chinese bank card network, and technology firm Xiaomi have announced a collaboration to enhance security against NFC-related fraud. This partnership introduces a comprehensive anti-fraud system for NFC communications.

The new feature will debut on the upcoming Redmi Note 17 series smartphones. The integration of this advanced security measure was recently confirmed for the new Redmi flagship devices.

NFC (Near Field Communication) is a short-range wireless technology used in various applications like public transport, access control, and mobile payments. According to the companies, reported NFC-related fraud typically stems not from the technology itself, but from scammers tricking users into installing malicious software or performing other risky actions.

Xiaomi states the new system employs AI to identify fraudulent calls, text messages, and links. If a user attempts to install an unknown or high-risk application, the phone will issue a warning or block the installation. In cases where a fraudulent app has already been installed, the "Family Shield" feature can assist with uninstallation. At the final NFC transaction stage, the system will verify the application's origin and block any unauthorized or risky commands aimed at reading bank card information.
