China Vigor Introduces New Packer Mechanisms for Oil Drilling

China Vigor Drilling Oil Tools and Equipment Co., Ltd. has announced the introduction of new packer mechanisms aimed at improving the efficiency and reliability of oil drilling operations.

The new mechanisms, manufactured in accordance with API 11 D1 standards, offer various solutions for packers operating via weight or compression systems. Weight-based packers utilize a drag and cone structure that activates when the weight of the tubing is released, allowing for the compression of the sealing element. These are suitable for situations where weight application is feasible but have limitations in high-angle wells or significant differential pressures.

Packers employing a compression system typically require a setting force ranging from 8,000 to 14,000 pounds. Vigor also provides tension-set packers, particularly beneficial in high bottom-hole pressure conditions where differential pressures can occur below the packer. These are often used in water injection wells where injection pressure can assist in maintaining the packer setting.

The company is also introducing rotor-mechanical and hydraulic packer solutions. Rotor-mechanical systems are activated by tubing rotation, while hydraulic systems rely on pressure generated within the tubing. Additionally, electric wireline-set packers are available, enabling precise depth setting and faster installation, although they can present installation challenges in highly deviated wells.
