China's production of batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems saw a significant increase in June 2026, according to information released by the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance. Total production for the month reached 206.0 GWh, a 7.5% increase from May and a substantial 59.5% rise compared to June 2025. Cumulatively, from January to June 2026, the total production volume reached 1068.9 GWh, reflecting a 53.3% growth year-over-year.

Sales figures also demonstrated strong upward momentum. In June, total battery sales reached 196.0 GWh, up 7.6% from the previous month and 49.1% from the previous year. Sales of EV batteries accounted for 133.4 GWh, representing 68.1% of the total, while energy storage batteries contributed 62.6 GWh, or 31.9%. For the first six months of 2026, cumulative battery sales totaled 979.4 GWh, an increase of 48.6% compared to the same period in 2025.

International trade in batteries also saw robust growth. China's total battery exports in June amounted to 36.2 GWh, a 23.7% increase from May and a 48.7% year-over-year rise. EV batteries constituted 25.5 GWh of these exports, with 10.7 GWh for energy storage applications. From January to June, cumulative exports reached 181.3 GWh, marking a 42.5% increase over the prior year's figures.

Installation data reveals that 76.5 GWh of power batteries were installed in vehicles during June, up 6.4% month-over-month and 31.5% year-over-year. Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries represented the majority of installations, with 63.7 GWh (83.3% share), while ternary (NMC) batteries accounted for 12.7 GWh (16.5% share). Over the first half of 2026, cumulative installations reached 335.6 GWh, a 12.0% increase compared to the previous year.
