China's first AI-generated animated feature film, "Sanxingdui: Future Memories," has been scheduled for theatrical release on October 23. The 100-minute film is reportedly the first in China to receive a theatrical release license with AI as its primary production method. Developed by Boca Film Cloud Stage, the production used AI for character generation and execution, with creative direction and final judgment provided by the Bona AIGMS team following industrial film processes. Notably, all characters are original digital creations, and no digital replication of real actors was involved.
The film's science fiction narrative is set in a future where inscriptions on Sanxingdui bronze artifacts reveal binary code from a different era. Three millennia later, humanity faces a global crisis after surrendering everything to super-AI. An archaeologist discovers that the key to resolving this crisis lies within seven Sanxingdui inscriptions.
"Sanxingdui: Future Memories" links the mysteries of the Sanxingdui civilization with humanity's reliance on super-AI. The film will feature iconic Sanxingdui artifacts, such as the bronze 'God Tree' and the 'Standing Figure,' presented in a hyper-realistic style.
The film's concept was previously showcased at the 30th Hong Kong International Film and Television Fair. Its creative lineage can be traced to the AI sci-fi short series "Sanxingdui: Future Revelation," released in July 2024, which garnered over 160 million views online.
