China's humanoid robot industry is advancing beyond mere exhibition demonstrations and small-scale trials towards practical, widespread use. The World Robot Conference (WRC) held in Beijing from August 19-23 provided a glimpse into an industry grappling with integrating increasingly capable machines into daily life and work.
The event featured hundreds of robotics companies and thousands of products under the theme 'Human-Robot Symbiosis, Production-Demand Convergence.' Galaxea AI demonstrated humanoid robots preparing breakfast and adapting to interruptions. CASBOT presented a robot band playing rock music, while Li-Gong showcased industrial applications for sorting and assembly workflows.
Further applications were seen in Unitree's robot kickboxing matches and the World Humanoid Robot Games, where the Tiangong Omni won a 400-meter race with a notable running style. Companies like UBTECH, AheadForm, Noetix Robotics, and HokMind are also focusing on developing more human-like biomimetic robots, refining aspects such as proportions, joint movement, and facial expressions.
The critical test for the industry now lies in transitioning from theoretical capabilities and stage performances to reliable, large-scale deployment. Ensuring consistency, safety, and economic viability in real-world scenarios will be key to the future success of these advanced robotic systems.
