China's Largest Self-Propelled Electric Deep-Sea Cable Laying Vessel Launched
China's largest self-propelled, fully electric deep-sea cable laying vessel, "Lan Hai Ling Hang" (Blue Sea Navigator), has been launched in Jiangsu. The vessel strengthens China's capacity in offshore wind power construction.
The "Lan Hai Ling Hang" (Blue Sea Navigator), China's largest self-propelled and fully electric deep-sea cable laying vessel, was launched in Qidong, Jiangsu, on August 4. This significant piece of equipment for offshore wind power development has taken a major step toward formal delivery and operation.
The vessel has a full load displacement of 35,000 tons and was independently designed by the China State Shipbuilding Corporation's Research Institute 708. Its central turntable has a maximum cable capacity of 16,000 tons, placing it among Asia's leaders in cable carrying capability.
Equipped with advanced features such as a helicopter platform, a large central turntable, and dual cable deployment chutes, the "Lan Hai Ling Hang" features a DP-2 dynamic positioning system. It is capable of operating at depths of up to 3,000 meters and can lay two cables simultaneously. The vessel can also perform single-hook operations in deep water and undertake cross-border installation tasks.
Upon completion, the vessel will be tasked with critical operations, including laying high-voltage subsea power cables for deep and far-offshore wind farms in China, as well as installing transoceanic submarine power transmission lines. This capability is crucial for the nation's energy infrastructure development.
